Hall, Harry – British Artist & Illustrator

Harry Hall (1814-1882)

Harry Hall, British, started his career at Tattersall’s Equine Sales Company in London. He was a contributor to the Tattersall’s British Racehorses and Sporting Review and he also was an illustrator for The London Illustrated News. Hall was the major racehorse portraitist of his time, providing an invaluable record of all the best horses of the period. He filled the gap left by John F. Herring Sr. of portraits of Classic and Gold Cup Winners. Hall followed popular convention that horses’ heads were particularly small and their quarters excessively strong.
