<p>Robert Wood began his business as a blacksmith in Philadelphia in 1838. He operated under &#8220;Robert Wood, Philadelphia Maker&#8221; until 1857 when he took on a partner, Elliston Perot and changed the name of the foundry to &#8220;Wood &#038; Perot.&#8221; Perot died in 1865 and Wood, in 1866 took on Thomas S. Root to form Robert Wood &#038; Co. He operated under this foundry name until 1878. Wood was the most renowned ornamental foundry in the country during the period, shipping throughtout the country, South American, and the West Indies. He cast for some of America&#8217;s most respected artists including Henry Kirke Brown, John Quincy Adams Ward, Joseph A. Bailly, and the Milmores to name but a few.</p>
