John Letchworth
American Cabinetmakers, Marked American Furniture, 1640-1940 by William C. Ketchum, Jr., offers the following information about John Letchworth: “The highly productive Philadelphia turner John Letchworth (1759-1843) produced a wide variety of Windsor from his shop on Third and Fourth streets during the period 1784-1807. He then moved to Chester County and pursued a career as an itinerant Quaker preacher. Letchworth’s chairs were branded I. LETCHWORTH and included settees; bow-back, rod-back, and comb-back side chairs; and high chairs. Arms, where present, were often of mahogany.”
