Charles P. Appel (1857-1928)

Charles Appel was born in Brooklyn and attended the New York School of Art, studying under Francis Luis Mora and William Merritt Chase at the New York School of Art, and with Frank Vincent DuMond at The Art Students League, but the major influence in his artistic career was luminist painter George Innes. He spent most of his life in East Orange, New Jersey and remained active in New York throughout his career. He was elected to the Salmagundi Club in 1906.
