James Hosmer Perkins Wise (1845 to 1901)
James Hosmer Perkins Wise was born on February 5, 1845 in New Hampshire, where his father was a lawyer. Wise served as a member of the medical corps attached to the 18th New York Cavalry, stationed in both Texas and later South Louisiana. At the time Wise was married to his first wife, Mary Comerford of New York City. In the aftermath of the Civil War, Wise moved to Louisiana, purportedly to attend medical school in New Orleans, later remarrying in 1878, Ms. Amelia, “Ameli”, or “Lily” Grevemberg, believed to be one of the daughters of the widow Frances Wykoff Grevemberg. Before his death in 1901, Wise served three terms as mayor of Morgan City.
