Forsyth, William – American Artist – Hoosier

William Forsyth (1854-1935)

A highly important Hoosier group painter, Forsyth (1854 to 1935) was primarily a landscape painter. He studied at the Royal Academy of Munich. He exhibited at the St. Louis Exposition (1904), the Pan-Pacific Exposition (1915), the Richmond Art Association, the Indianapolis Art Association, and the Hoosier Salon (1925 to 1935). His work is in the collections of the Indianapolis Athletic Club, Indiana State Museum, Brooklyn Museum, and the Herron Art Institute. He taught with J. Otis Adams in Muncie and Ft. Wayne, with T.C. Steele at the second Indianapolis School of Art, and at the Herron Art Institute (1906 to 1933).
