Clarence Millet first studied at the Arts Student League, New York, under the Paris trained painter, George Brandt Bridgeman (1864 to 1943). Smith, Gean – American Artist – Race Horses

Gean Smith (American, 1851 to 1928)

Gene Smith, born in New York, worked in both New York City and Chicago until he moved permanently to Galveston, Texas, in 1923. His passion was equestrian figures, especially portraits of champion racing horses. Occasionally Smith would place his equestrian figures in exotic or racing backgrounds.

Havens, James Dexter – American Artist

James Dexter Havens (American, 1900 to 1960)

James Dexter Havens was born January 13, 1900 in Rochester, New York and had a fairly unremarkable childhood until he was fourteen, at which time he was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes. Doctors gave him only two years to live, but he clung to life for the next forty-six years, albeit bedridden much of the time. In order to combat boredom, he turned to drawing.

Coombs, Delbert Dana – American Artist

Delbert Dana Coombs (American, 1850 to 1938)

Delbert Dana Coombs was born in Lisbon Falls, Maine, on July 26, 1850. Although primarily self-taught, Coombs took painting lessons from Scott Leighton, an animal painter, and studied landscape painting with Harrison Bird Brown. Coombs painted actively for over fifty years.

Markos, Lajos – American – Hungarian Artist

Lajos Markos (Hungarian/American, 1917 to 1993)

Born in Budapest, Hungary, Markos earned a scholarship to the National Royal Academy of Budapest. Markos paintings hang in museums in the United States and Europe. He has international recognition for both his portraits and his western art. Markos also painted portraits of the founders of the Zigler Museum, Fred B. & Ruth B. Zigler.

Lucien Levy-Dhurmer (French, 1865 to 1953)

Lucien Levy-Dhurmer was a painter and potter. From 1879 he studied at the Ecole Superieure de Dessin et de Sculpture in Paris.
