Rieke, Rex – American Artist

Rex Rieke

Rex Rieke grew up on the Oxbow cattle ranch near Wolf Creek, Montana. After studying art at the University of Montana he traveled to New York on two separate occasions to study at the Arts Students League. For several years he earned his living playing the piano on the nightclub circuit in Montana. In 1966 he joined the staff of the Montana Historical Society Museum in Helena as assistant curator. During these years his interest in art continued and he painted whenever time allowed. A growing demand for his work prompted Rieke to quit his museum job late in 1968 to become a full-time painter. He works mostly in oils and watercolor in his studio near Billings, Montana.
