Anthony Meucci (Italian/American, active New Orleans 1818-1827)

Meucci was known as a portrait, miniature and figure painter. Meucci and his wife Nina, also an artist, came to New Orleans from Rome in 1818. They also worked in Charleston (where they opened an art school), New York City and Salem, MA. They are last documented in New Orleans in 1827 when Meucci painted scenery for the New Orleans Theatre. His work is represented at the Historic New Orleans Collection, the Louisiana State Museum, the Essex Institute, the New York Historical Society and the Henry Luce III Center for the Study of American Culture.
