Born on August 15th 1769, in Corisca, Napoleon crowned himself emperor on December 2, 1804. He died in exile on the island of St. Helena in 1821. In 1840, King Louis Philippe ordered that his remains be brought to Paris and placed in the Hotel des Invalides.

Pickelhaube Helmet

The German Pickelhaube Helmet

This piece of originally Prussian headgear is probably the most distinctive item worn by the German army in World War I. The helmet itself was designed by King Friedrich-Wilhelm IV of Prussia in 1842. Two years later the artillery adopted the ball topped helmet officially called a kugelhelm. The soldiers’ slang term for it was Pickelhaube, which literally meant “Pimple Hat”.

The A. H. Heisey Glass Co. was founded in Newark, Ohio following the Civil War and remained in operation until 1956. The company was known for its finely cut and etched glassware and for a number of popular and widely marketed lines of pattern glass in the 1920′s to 1950′s as well as a line of glass animal figures.

From 1846 until 1850 Henry Aston made approximately 24,000 Model 1842 pistols at Middletown, Connecticut under a U.S. Army contract of February 25, 1845 at $6.50 each before the firm’s name was changed to H. Aston & Co. Thereafter, another 6,000 pistols were made from 1851 to 1852.

Colt manufactured about 200,000 of these Model 1860 Army revolvers in Hartford, Connecticut, between 1860 and 1873. It was the major revolver used by Union forces during the Civil War. The federal government contracted for about 127,000 of these revolvers for use in the war.
