Andres Molinary (1847-1915)

Andres was born in Gibralter in 1847. Soon after establishing residence in New Orleans during 1872, Andres Molinary earned acclaim for his portrait, genre and landscape paintings. Sacha Moldovan (1901-1982)

Born in Russia, Sacha Moldovan moved with his family to New York in 1915. He attended the National Academy of Art & Design in New York. In 1919 he moved to Paris and studied at the prestigious “Academy Julian.” He met Henri Matisse in 1922 and studied and worked in his atelier. The Mitchell & Rammelsberg Furniture Company operated in Cincinnati, Ohio from 1847 to 1881 profusely manufacturing all forms of furniture in the late Classical, Empire, Rococo Revival, Renaissance Revival and other Victorian styles. The ease of shipment on the Ohio and Mississippi rivers gave the firm a wide market throughout the lower South as well as the Midwest.

Miller, Lewis – American Artist & Carver

Lewis Miller (1796-1882)

Lewis was from York County, Pennsylvania and a carpenter by trade. He completed thousands of works of art before his death in 1882. The Historical Society of York County, Pennsylvania has a large collection of Miller’s work including a hand carved and painted pediment with figures and animals.

Millet, Jean Francois – French Artist

Jean Francois Millet (1814-1875)

The son of a peasant farmer from Normandy, Millet overcame great odds to train as an artist in Paris during the 1830′s. At the outbreak of a Paris cholera epidemic in 1849, he was compelled to move to the Barbizon countryside south of the city at the advice of fellow artist Charles Jacque (who also taught Millet etching). Meuttman, William – American Artist

William Meuttman (1869-1948)

William Meuttman was born to German parents in Cincinnati, Ohio. He trained under Duveneck and was a member of the Cincinnati Art Club. Like his contemporaries, Henry Farny and Joseph Henry Sharp, Meuttman traveled to the American West. The Smithsonian has records of 3 paintings he executed in Arizona between 1910 and 1920.

Meucci, Anthony – Italian/American/South American Artist

Anthony Meucci (Italian/American, active New Orleans 1818-1827)

Meucci was known as a portrait, miniature and figure painter. Meucci and his wife Nina, also an artist, came to New Orleans from Rome in 1818. They also worked in Charleston (where they opened an art school), New York City and Salem, MA. They are last documented in New Orleans in 1827 when Meucci painted scenery for the New Orleans Theatre. Metzger, Evelyn Borchard – American Artist

Evelyn Borchard Metzger (1911-2004)

Metzger painted a variety of subjects in various styles including realism, impressionism, fauvism and cubism. She painted many urban genre scenes of New York City. In 1950, she had a major exhibition in Argentina and then exhibited in France, Mexico and the United States. Her work is in the Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington DC.
